Cafe in Australian Bush

How unusual to find this log-style cafe in the middle of farming country. Suffice to say, it is in the middle of nowhere. I love walking into this secluded magnificent timbered building. It welcomes me every time. Its earthy tones, feasting tables and yesteryear artefacts draw me in. As I walk around, I am fascinated. Next I spotted the eclectic collection of jugs and teapots against one wall. When I saw the oversized black leather couches, I wanted to sink deep into them. I’m in my element, as I sit at the feasting table with my family in the middle of the Australian Bush in air-conditioned comfort.

Steeped In History

The sultry dim lighting creates an ambience. Its walls and bench tops are steeped in history with historical family photos and terracotta earthen pots of old. It constantly amazes me that there are people and places that preserve our heritage. My hat off to you.

Front Row Seats to Australian Bush

Not only does the Cafe exude earthy tones and historical pieces, but it looks out onto our Australian bush. By this I mean, the cafe has glassed one whole side wall. It has a waist to near-ceiling picture window – spanning some 15-20m. This magnificent view, brings outside to in.  This Australian garden is dotted with metal sculptures. The native trees elegantly stretch up and create a shaded homely space.

Only 10 Steps Away

Ten steps from Bridge’s Cafe  is the Mt Uncle Rum Distillery, which I wrote about recently. However, my focus is the cafe which myself and my family were happy about because it specialises in wood-fired pizzas and home made desserts. Also, while waiting the kids were fascinated with the earthenware pot which held lemonade; those many years ago.

Wood-fired Pizzas For Lunch

For lunch the table was ladened with a selection of delicious and yummy pizzas. There was no talking when the pizzas arrived. Just gleeful, happy full mouths munching and chewing with a few contented sighs sprinkled here and there.  Of course we had homemade scones with homemade jam and cream for dessert.

Don’t Forget Dessert

Once lunch was over, we realised time had flown and it was time to go. Outside the kids were keenly trying to photograph the peacocks with their tails out. If you visit the distillery and you’re tasting, allow 1/2hr and for the cafe allow 1-2hrs for relaxing, lunching and desserting.

Roam the Grounds

Also you can walk around the grounds and view the majestic peacocks roaming free. You will see the alpacas, donkeys and goats safely in paddocked enclosures. The kids got a buzz from seeing these animals; albeit passing in the car because time was pressing.

I’m always on the lookout for historically interesting places to show family. Also I like great places to eat when they visit us on the Atherton Tablelands. I am constantly amazed at what I have discovered.

  1. I loved reliving our own visit here with you through your story Maria. A beautiful piece and a wonderful place to while away an afternoon.

  2. This looks like everything I’d want in one place. Ye olde things to look at, woodfire pizza and grounds to roam! Plus I bet my other half would quite enjoy the rum distillery 😉

      • I have just seen this…I rarely come to this site. So, Maria, IBOT stands for I Blog On Tuesdays. It was originally started by Jess at Essentially Jess around 5 years ago as a way to connect bloggers and the one criterion was a NEW, previously unpublished post… ‘hence, I blog on Tuesdays.’ The spiel is over on essentiallyjess.com who handed over IBOT to Kylie for the 6 months of this year as Jess has been studying. Pop over to read more!
